ABOUT ME

Lacey McCutchen

Hi, I'm Lacey, the artist behind Lulabell Studios.

Art has always been a big part of my life. From crayons and sculpy as a kid to charcoals and watercolours as a teenager, I always had creative ideas floating around. Art took a backseat for a few years when I had kids, but a weekend trip to the Sunshine Coast with my cousin in 2018 inspired us to take a pottery class and I fell in love.

When Covid made it impossible to get to the community centre pottery studio, my husband suggested we turn our backyard shed into a little pottery studio. A year and a half later it was finally complete and I started making pieces in my own space here in Ocean Park.

My art style is very eclectic, and I like to think of it as a visual representation of my neurodiverse mind. I am drawn to bright colours and maximalist patterns as well as nature themes. I am not a production potter, I need to be constantly creating new designs to keep my mind happy. I suffer from chronic pain due to a genetic disease so my ability to create fluctuates depending on my physical and mental health at the time.

In my personal life I am kept busy with my 3 kids, dog, and husband. I have a small permaculture garden that takes up most of my summer outdoor time, and in the winter I spend my time hiding from the cold indoors and writing.
